Arriving in a new town which is literally the other side of the world from where I’m from (England, UK), it can be quite daunting, especially as a solo traveller. However I have included a list of the friendliest watering holes I visited in Many, Australia (in my humble opinion).

I will start off by saying that Manly (New South Wales, Australia) is definitely worth a visit, especially as it's only a short ferry ride from Sydney. You won't be disappointed, beaches galore and in all honesty I found the locals were much friendlier and much more relaxed than the city folk.

I have compiled this list based on what I experienced when visiting Manly. The bars mentioned are in no particular order but I have listed what drinks I recommend you try at each one.

The Boathouse Shelly Beach (1 Marine Parade, Manly NSW, 2095) - This is a wonderful place, the decor is of a high standard throughout and the staff lovingly leave you alone to people watch and quaff Champagne all afternoon. A glass of Bollinger is $20 or a bottle for $95.

As short walk from here, along Marine Parade will bring you to Manly beach and you'll soon arrive at the next stop.

Havana Beach (3/14 S Steyne, Manly NSW, 2095) - The Margaritas are by far the best I found in Manly and they're dangerously good. Before you know it you'll be going there for happy hour most days, between 5-6:30pm & 8:30-9pm weekdays & 3-6pm on weekends ($10).

From here you can walk towards Manly Wharf and just before you reach the ferry terminal, you will approach the next stop.

Garfish Manly (1/39 E Esplanade, Manly NSW, 2095) - This is actually one of the best seafood restaurants in Manly (book well in advance), however should you be partial to cocktail, I can utterly recommend you stop by and try the Lychee Love Martini. Happy hour is between 4-6pm every day ($12)

Opposite the road you will see the ferry terminal and to the right of the terminal entrance, you will find a perfect place to watch the sunset whilst enjoying a cold beer.

The Bavarian Manly Wharf (Manly Wharf, 2/5 E Esplanade, Manly NSW, 2095) - If you like beer, happy hour and watching the sun go down with a busy vibe you will love it. Happy hour 4-6pm $5 craft beers, wines, spirits & cocktails.

Next door you'll find the second to last stop.

Hugo's (Manly Wharf, 1 E Esplanade, Manly NSW 2095) - Not only do they do the most delicious meatballs (it is an Italian restaurant after all) they also make the best Vodka Martini's I've had in a (very) long time. You won't be sorry for making a visit here. Plus the she staff are also friendly and very accommodating if you are celebrating something special. ($19)

Now for this last choice it's wise to take an uber, but I assure you it's worth leaving the beach for.

Manly Spirits Co. Distillery (4A/9-13 Winbourne Rd, 2100 Brookvale NSW, 2100) It's worth saying right now, don't worry, at first it seems your Uber is leaving you at a random business park, but think of it as a speakeasy. You'll see a barrel turned into a fish on the outside of the building and voila. It will then feel as if you've entered an alcoholic version of Willy Wonk's factory. I also truly respect the woman who started the company too (because women supporting women is always a smart choice, especially if it's a delicious gin bar - as if I need any persuading!). The drink I unequivocally suggest you try is the Magic Dragon. ($20 - if I remember correctly).

I had a lot (!!) of fun researching these locations and I look forward to visiting them all again very soon.

Much love,

Stacey x
